My two favorite quotes from the book.
My next reading selection was a book I have heard about for a while. From my teenage sister and her friends, to banned reading lists and now it is going to be made into a major motion picture later this year. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephan Chobosky is an amazing coming of age book that will remind you of the tumultuous years of being a teenager all over again. A story very reminiscent and obviously inspired by books like The Catcher in the Rye and A Separate Peace, Wallflower brings you back to a time not so long ago and bonds you with a conflicted boy named "Charlie". I have to say I really liked this book. I read it in about a day and was so drawn in by the characters and their stories. Charlie is writing letters and telling you all about his friends, family dynamics and his own thoughts and feelings. The journey of self discovery is one that is not lost on any reader who was ever a confused teenager who has lost their way. I could really relate to Charlie, I wanted to reach into the book and tell him that he won't always be the freak and to enjoy just being himself while he can. I recommend this for any one looking for a raw and uninhibited young adult read, This book doesn't pull any punches and is very blunt. It will be interesting to see how that translates to film.
* This book was third on the American Library Association's list of the top most frequently challenged books of 2009 for reasons including drugs, suicide, sex, homosexuality, abortion and dating violence. So beware.
