First post I am doing is about the Fallen Series by Lauren Kate. A lady at work suggested I read these when she found out the type of books I read and let me borrow both of hers. I had heard about them but they were not on the top of my list. But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and couldn't put either one down. I love the supernatural young adult genre and these books have a definite feeling that they are written for a younger audience. Some of the plot points are a little juvenile and you feel like Luce is kinda a nag. Always wanting to know what is going on and always getting herself in trouble. The first book left a lot of unanswered questions and didn't always flow so well. But I was really interested to see where the characters were going in the second one. I think Torment was much better and held my attention more. I read the second one in just a couple of days compared to over a week that it took me to get through Fallen.
The books are a little outlandish at times, we are dealing with Angels but fun and interesting non the less. There is a whole universe of different angels and heaven and hell folklore to take in. I always like when the author sets up a whole different world for you to immerse yourself in. The ending of the second one was set up well for the third that is due out this summer, Passion.
So not my favorite series ever but I would recommend it for sure. And I have to say the cover art on these books are to die for! This artist did a beautiful job making you feel something just by picking up the book.
* These are books for grade 8-12 so don't expect too much in the way of sexiness. There are a couple violent parts but for the most part the battles are fantasy violence.
*The Hush, Hush Series and the Halo Series are other recommendations in the new Young Adult Angel fiction trend.
Due out June 14, 2011
